Getting Started With A Low Carb Diet Plan

Once you’ve finally made the decision to lose weight, and you’ve decided you want to try a low carb diet plan, the hard part is practically over. All you need to do now is simply get started. So let’s look at what your first several days of a low carb diet plan might be like.

Day one of your low carb diet plan should really start with some firm decisions. First you decide you will lose weight of course, and second you decide to go with a low carb diet plan to accomplish that weight loss. Next though, you need to choose which low carb diet plan you intend to follow. Three popular ones include the Atkins low carb diet plan, The South Beach low carb diet plan, and The Glycemic Index low carb diet plan.

Regardless of which plan you choose, the goal is to lower your daily intake of carbs, and start really losing some of the extra weight and fat your body has been holding on to. So on day one, decide which low carb diet plan you will be following and familiarize yourself with how that low carb diet plan works specifically.

Day two of your low carb diet plan will involve planning and preparation. First you need to clear out your cabinets, pantry, fridge and freezer. Toss out or give away any high carb, high sugar content foods that you won’t be eating with your low carb diet plan.

Most low carb diet plans don’t allow you to have certain foods in the first week or two on the plan, but you can gradually add those foods in later. So you may find yourself getting rid of foods you have right now that aren’t overly high in carbs, but aren’t yet allowed for the start of your low carb diet plan. Don’t despair though… many of these foods will be added back in over the next few weeks.

Next you will want to make a list of what you will be eating for at least the next week. Include meals, snacks and liquids, then create a shopping list for all of those items. Last but not least, you will go to the store and buy all of the foods on your list.

Taking these steps will help you get started right with the low carb diet plan of your choosing, and it will help you stick to the proper guidelines and instructions for that plan as well.

Day three of your low carb diet plan is when you will actually change the way you eat. You don’t have to wait until this day to get started with your new low carb diet plan, but it can be helpful to start fresh at the beginning of a new day, instead of starting in the middle of a day. Starting your new low carb diet plan at the beginning of a brand new day will make you feel more committed to the plan instead of feeling like it was an impulsive decision on the spur of the moment.

Day three is a good day to do a bit of cooking too. By preparing foods that are allowed during this beginning stage of your low carb diet plan, you’re making sure you will always have something good to eat that’s easy to just grab and go. One of the biggest pitfalls of most low carb diet plans is that you need to cook the proper foods for your particular plan. And if you don’t have something cooked and ready when you want it, you’re more likely to fall off the plan and sabotage your weight loss efforts.

The next several days of your low carb diet plan might not be the best. You will experience sugar and starch cravings, you may be tired and lethargic, and you may have headaches or mild dizziness. These are all standard symptoms of starting a low carb diet plan, because your body is cleaning out all the extra starches, sugars and junk that’s been stored up for awhile. You body is going through withdrawal from the lack of sugar that it’s used to, and these early days on your low carb diet plan are when having pre-cooked foods is most important, because you’re at a higher risk of quitting when you’re not feeling well.

Once those few days of withdrawal are over though, you will very likely be thrilled with the results of choosing a low carb diet plan. You’ll have more energy, you won’t feel as bloated, and you might even notice clothes are already started to fit more loosely too!

LLVLC On YouTube: Is The Fat Nocebo Effect What Is Really Behind Fatal Heart Attacks? (Episode 72)

LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com blogger Jimmy Moore and his wife Christine discuss the little-known but very real “nocebo effect” as it relates to heart health in the latest installment of their popular “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb on YouTube” series. In Episode 72, Jimmy and Christine discuss an article called “A Fat Nocebo” by a biochemist named Marshall E. Deutsch, a biochemist who poses an interesting theory about why people who fear getting a heart attack or death from consuming saturated fat and cholesterol are sealing their own fate: www.lewrockwell.com You may have heard of the “placebo effect” where a non-medicinal treatment like a sugar pill is used to help “cure” someone of a particular ailment simply because they believed it would. But a “nocebo effect” is when you think something is going to harm you so much that it actually does because of your strong belief that it will. Sounds like a bunch of hocus pocus mind games, but scientific research has shown this to be a very real phenomenon. With the issue of saturated fat and cholesterol, could it be that the fear of these is actually what is driving people to heart attacks and death more than the actual consumption of them? Is the worry about these things bringing so much stress on our bodies that we are living a self-fulfilling prophecy when we concern ourselves about them? It’s an interesting thing to think about in light of the ongoing fat phobia that still exists today. Special thanks to Dr. Deutsch for the conversation

Why Women Punish Themselves

Why do we (women) punish ourselves!  I used to be a woman who didn’t care what people thought of me, I am fat and plain.  I didn’t want people’s perception of me to be PWT (poor white trash), but other than that my theory was, if you don’t like me don’t look ayt me or be around me.  I would brush my hair, put on clean clothes, and brush my teeth.  I would not put hours in doing my makeup and my hair or worry about wearing name brand clothes.

I would go to kareokee once a week and one night I noticed something; no-man would hit on me or flirt with me, or even glance my way.  Now I am a married woman, and I love my husband very much and would never, never cheat on him, but it does make a woman feel good about herself when a man shows interest in her whether she is available or not.  I was not getting any attention from the opposite sex at all, so if men at a bar was not interested in me am I still keeping my husbands attention as well.  I started to watch women in general to see what they were doing to attract men and what I was not doing. I seen women on a daily basis loosing weight, and primping themselves and men were hitting on them or flirting with them.  Here I am gray haired, fat and ugly.  I was not primping or loosing weight.  I then became obssessed about my appearance and how people would look at me.  My best friend asked me what was wrong with me and I told her about my feelings, of course she did not understand, I never cared what people thought of me before so why change the person I was.  She is skinny and beautiful she had no clue what I was feeling and why, she had never been fat or ugly.  She had good advise but, it did not make sense to me because she was what I wanted to be, so it is easy for her to say these things.

I took a look at my friends and women all around me to see what they were doing to themselves and I came up with the conclusion women punish themselves on a daily basis for the world’s perseptions of beautiful.  Women, exercise, diet, tweeze nip, tuck, stretch, roll, flatten, hours of applying perfect makeup, hours of fixing hair, wax, creams, lotions, dyes, perms, matching outfits with shoes, perfumes, pedicures, manicures, facial, scrubs, hot oils, polishs, and haircuts, all for the sake of beauty.  Punishments to be beautiful, A thousand years ago women were all plain janes and yet they still attracted men.  Why have we changed so much about what our perception of beauty is?  We need to be happy withourselves whether we are fat, ugly, thin, or plain.  It is our inner beauty that makes us beautiful in and out.  It is not all this stuff that we punish ourselves with that deciedes if were are beautiful or young.  We all grow old and even if you are 80 yrs old and had all the plastic surgerys in the world you are still going to look old but with alot of plastic all over you. Think about what image we are impressing on our children.  Why don’t we change the way we think about beauty and realize that true beauty is within, not all this punishment of primping.  Heres a challenge for all women, take a good look aroung and analyze why we punish ourselves for beauty.  Lets change the world’s perception of beauty.  Be beautiful on the inside and it will shine on the outside.

Atkins Diet: Induction Flu: Signs of Progress or Problems

It is very common that I read questions or statements from new Atkineers saying, “How come I feel so tired?” “Why do I have such a headache?” “I have no energy what is this diet doing to me!” One of the problems is no one forewarned them about Induction flu. Induction flu is simply the body burning its last remaining glucose and stored glycogen for energy, and suffering withdrawal effects. It is very similar to what happens when runners “hit the wall” and cyclist “bonk.” In addition to the physical withdrawal symptoms there are the mental symptoms as well. Think of drug addict, are they necessarily pleasant to be around or in high spirits even though they are doing something good. Well the carb addict has the same reaction; I personally was irritable for the first 2 or 3 weeks as I had to figure out how to eat, exert control over what entered my mouth, and regain new comfort foods. It is a dramatic change, and some people resist change. The good news is it is just temporary. It typically only last a few days, but for some the mental effects might last longer. It also shows you are on the right path and making true progress on getting rid of the excess fat. The silver lining is indeed that by the end if you continue the follow the plan you will be burning fat for fuel. You’ll have to watch the video for my suggestions on how to lessen the effects.

Some Medicine That Can Help Fight Bronchitis

There are basically two kinds of bronchitis, acute and chronic bronchitis. These two may have the same last names but they vary from their causative effects and treatment prescribed to control the diseases.

Acute bronchitis is a short-term illness that becomes rampant during the cold seasons. It is usually followed by a viral infection and can go together with a bacterial infection. Acute bronchitis is self-limiting which clears itself within fourteen days but the cough may continue. Like any other upper respiratory tract infections, having acute bronchitis can raise chance of developing pneumonia.

People who are at risk of getting acute bronchitis are infants, very young children, and the old adults. This is due to the fact that infants and very young children still have underdeveloped immune systems, while the old adults, on the other hand, have immune systems that have become weaker due to ageing. Other group populations who are at risk are smokers and those with preexisting lung and/or heart ailments. People who are often exposed to pollution are also at risk of being afflicted with acute bronchitis.

Chronic bronchitis is also an inflammation of the respiratory tract with an accompaniment of phlegm expectoration and coughing. But in chronic bronchitis, the signs ands symptoms are at hand for no less than 3 months for two successive years.

Chronic bronchitis may be caused by the inhalation of respiratory airway irritants. Airway irritants may be in the form of cigarette smoking or pollution or a combination of both. Because this disease advances gradually, middle aged individuals and the elderly are expected to be diagnosed with this malady.

The main objective for the treatment of both acute and chronic bronchitis is to alleviate the symptoms.

For acute bronchitis, treatment consists of lots of intake of fluids, quitting smoking, taking a break, humidifying the home environment, and medications (in case of fever and pain). Acetaminophen is the most prescribed medication to fight pain and fever. Another is aspirin, but this is contraindicated for children and pregnant women due to the fact that this drug is suspected to be the cause of Reye’s syndrome among children. For women, it may cause severe bleeding.

Anti-cough medicines are taken when the sufferer experiences dry cough (cough without phlegm). But if the individual is experiencing cough with phlegm, then it should be left as it is and let the phlegm come out naturally. This is because if cough is suppressed and the phlegm is contained within, then it will eventually accumulate in the air passages which will cause an obstruction and may become a hotbed for dangerous microorganisms.

Expectorants, on the other hand, are medications that help liquidify or thin out the thick mucus in the lungs to make it easier to cough out.

Moreover, if the physician has detected a bacterial infection then an antibiotic medication may be prescribed. Intake of antibiotic medications should be done religiously as the physician ordered because any lapse may only cause the return of the disease or worse, the bacteria may produce a strain that could become immune to the medication.

Antibiotic medications may include the following: ? azithromycin ? trimethoprim or sulfamethazole ? clarithromycin ? tetracycline or ampicillin ? amoxicillin (for children below eight years of age due to the fact that tetracycline causes discoloration on the teeth that have not come out)

As for chronic bronchitis, treatment is a bit more multifaceted than acute bronchitis. The physician would need to carefully evaluate the patient for other health problems before a treatment plan can be employed to control the disease. Including in the treatment plan are changes in lifestyle that will involve stoppage of smoking and keeping away from polluted environments. Regular exercise may also help in the control of the disease.

Medications for chronic bronchitis include anti-inflammatory medications and bronchodilators. Anti-inflammatory drugs decrease the inflammation in the respiratory tract tissues.

The following are commonly prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs: ? Corticosteroids (i.e. prednisone, can be taken either as an oral medication or through IV) ? Ipratropium (also reduces the amount of mucus produced)

Meanwhile, bronchodilators help loosen up the bronchial muscles which then permits increase air flow in the respiratory passages. These can be taken in orally or by inhalation through a nebulizer (an apparatus that transport medication to the respiratory tract). Bronchodilators may include the following: ? metaproterenol ? albuterol

With the advancement of chronic bronchitis, the individual afflicted may eventually require supplemental oxygen. And in the later stages of the disease, the patient may need to be in the hospital if he or she developed severe complications.

In addition to conventional medications, herbal medicines can be also included in the treatment plan. Herbal medicines may be inhaled (like eucalyptus) or taken as tea made from mullein or Verbascum thapsus, coltsfoot or Tussilago farfara, and anise seed or Pimpinella anisum.

There are numerous medications out there and it is best to consult the physician to know which drug can best help treat and/or control bronchitis.

WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT? MAKE SURE YOU’RE GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP

One of the most important factors that will determine how successful you are at losing weight is whether you are getting consistent, quality sleep.

Studies have shown that overall, people who get under seven hours of sleep per night nearly always end up with a higher body mass index (BMI) than people who sleep seven to eight hours. Those who get less than six hours a night tend to have even higher BMIs, and among those who get under five hours, it is higher still.

One of the explanations for this relationship between less sleep and higher BMI is that daytime fatigue can have an impact on the way you eat. Fatigue can be misinterpreted as hunger, and it an also add to stress, which is proven to prompt people to overeat. Poor sleep can also have a significant effect on your metabolism.

To make matters worse, people who are overweight or obese may have lower quality sleep, often due to snoring or sleep apnea or because of an underactive metabolism. As a result, the problem ends up being a “vicious circle”: Poor sleep leads to weight gain and weight gain means poor sleep.

There are a number of strategies you can use to improve your sleep patterns if they are a factor in preventing you from losing weight. There are a number of prescription and non-prescription sleep aids available, however these can be habit-forming and they are generally not a good long-term solution.

A better option is an herbal preparation like Valerian root, which is not addictive and can be used on a regular basis. Valerian can be taken as an herbal tea or as a pill, but some people find that they experience side-effects such as nausea and upset stomach. Give it a try, and if it is leading to unpleasant side-effects, try another option.

A second natural herbal solution is Camomile tea, which has the advantage of tasting better than Valerian, although it is not quite as powerful a sleep-inducer. It can be effective, however, at simply reducing night-time stress and putting you in the mood for sleep.

If over-the-counter sleep aids do not work for you, you may want to explore the option of spending the night in a â??sleep labâ? that may be able to diagnose a particular sleep disorder than needs medical attention. This option is expensive, but your health insurance may cover it if it is recommended by your physician.
